Choose one or more of the following tasks:
-
Survey exercise – Use a Web Map service of your choice, preferably one providing aerial photographs and/or satellite images, to identify sealed areas near you. Do a brief estimation of the percentage of sealed vs. green space areas. For which purpose was sealing done? Feel free to share your findings in the forum. Additional suggestion: go back in time, look at how soil sealing has developed over time in the area. Is there a pattern in which sealing has increased the most (in the cities, the semi-urban area)?
-
Outdoor survey exercise – If you have access visit a roof top or a high building and take a picture* of the ground (bird perspective). Identify the share of sealed/partly sealed/non-sealed area. Feel free to share your picture and reflections in the forum.
-
Identify sealing – How does the presence of sealed surfaces affect your daily life? Can you identify positive consequences of having impermeable surfaces? Discuss your observations with a friend, colleague, family member.
-
Outdoor exercise – Classify surfaces along a gradient from unsealed to fully sealed. Go out and find three surfaces varying in sealing intensity. Take a photo and describe what the surfaces are made of and what you think about the impermeability of the different surfaces. Feel free to share your pictures and reflection in the forum.
* Remember when you take and post pictures you should make sure to have the consent of the person(s) visible and recognisable on your pictures to do so.
