Soil scientists are not the only ones interested in soil. Farmers, gardeners, and indigenous communities often have their own methods of assessing soil health. They may observe plant growth, soil smell, colour, moisture, or the presence of certain animals and plants as indicators.

What traditional or local methods do you know? Can you think of ways people in your region describe or assess the state of their soil?

Take a few notes, share them in the forum, or document them in your soil diary.
